With Summer Just Around the Corner …

If you have any students in your life, you’re probably well aware the countdown is on for summer break. That means longer days and more free time will soon arrive. There are probably a million different ways to fill the extra time. One God-honoring way is watching biblically based films together—whether in person or in your separate homes across the miles.

Add the 35th anniversary edition of “The JESUS Film” to the mix if you both haven’t already watched it. You can conveniently add the DVD or Blu-ray to your cart on your next trip to your local Walmart. Or look for it at other retailers.

As you may have read in one of our recent blog posts, “The JESUS Film” earned a “faith friendly” seal, from the Dove Foundation. Its scenes seem to be more widely suitable for families than some other biblically based films released recently. If you want to read more about the content of “The JESUS Film” to see if it’s suitable for your intended audience, see the review from the Dove Foundation.

Dove Foundation Seal of Approval

If you’ve ever wanted to see as a movie as a family, you may have questioned whether or not you could trust the Motion Picture ratings or the reviews that come from the mass media. Because of this widespread feeling, the Dove Foundation has been providing film reviews from a Judeo-Christian, family-friendly perspective since its founding in 1990.

Now you’re probably wondering what rating was given to “The JESUS Film.” We’re proud to report that Dove FoundationDove-FaithFriendly gave “The JESUS Film” its solid “Faith Friendly” Seal.

Dick Rolfe, Dove Foundation cofounder and CEO, had this to say about the film:

In their written review, Dove Foundation had this to say as well:

This is a wonderful and poignant film based on the life of Jesus from the Gospel of St. Luke. It is solid in its content and contains a straightforward telling of the life of Jesus … and … the crucifixion and resurrection.

The movie … seems to always hold back before becoming graphically violent. We are recommending the film for ages twelve plus and award “The Jesus Film” our Dove “Faith Friendly” Seal. The restoration the movie has undergone makes it look pristine and the colors are vivid. Don’t miss seeing this one! Read the full review.

The Power of Your Words

Mother Teresa once said, “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things” (paraphrased). Can you think of a moment in time when you’ve found that to be true? We can when it comes to the “The JESUS Film.”

It’s the way that you—our faithful supporters—have let others know about the film, perhaps without even realizing it, and how a few words from you could do even more.

The JESUS FilmYou see, we can talk about “The JESUS Film” on websites like Facebook and Twitter, but alone, we only reach so many. When you interact with us there and our messages, that’s when millions of more people are informed and have the potential to learn more about Jesus.

Similarly, we can make the film available at retailers, like Amazon.com, but we can’t write reviews that help others in their purchasing decision—only you can. If you’ve ever used buyer reviews to influence your decision on a purchase, you know how important they can be.

Would you write a quick review?

If you have enjoyed the 35th anniversary edition of “The JESUS Film” (fully remastered and restored), would you consider writing a review on Amazon.com for the DVD or Blu-ray? Just think of how powerful a few of your words could be for the people who are looking for it.

As a thank you, we’ll be giving away another copy of “The JESUS Film” to someone int the U.S. We’ll announce a lucky winner on June 13th, so be sure to post your review to Amazon before then if you want a chance to win.

Biblically Inspired Films Creating Positive Opportunities

In the past couple of months, filmmakers have done a great job drawing moviegoers in with biblically inspired films. Two of the most popular, “Noah” and “Son of God,” have done well at the box office. Whether your reaction to them was positive, negative or mixed, there have been positive trends and opportunities that followed.

During the opening weekend for “Noah” in theaters, the number of people turning to story of Noah in the book of Genesis increased by:

That of course does not account for those who turned to the story in print or from other sources.

While filmmakers today apply varying levels of creative license to familiar Bible stories, it’s certainly exciting to see the interest in biblically inspired films—and the Bible itself—grow. Even if films don’t line up precisely with scripture, they create an opportunity to drive people to the truth—in conversations with believers, in the Bible or in biblically accurate films like the 35th anniversary edition of “The JESUS Film.”

Though “The JESUS Film” comes from a different era of Bible epics, it still remains the most-watched film to date.

It seems that the Bible epics genre will continue to strengthen this year. “Heaven is for Real” is also now at the box office.  Others, like “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” are also set to be released this year. Our hope is that this genre of films will—if nothing else—point others to Christ.

What’s your reaction?

Have friends or critics strayed you away from seeing these films? Has seeing any of these films prompted conversations between you and others about the truth?

The Reason We Exist

If you’ve been following us through the release of the 35th anniversary edition of “The JESUS Film” on Blu-ray and DVD, you know how excited we’ve been about it. It’s not about notoriety or sales though. It’s about the souls that are impacted and will continue to be.

Jesus paid it all so that we could all truly live—all who come to know and follow Jesus. That’s why He calls us to share this good news with others. We are personally humbled by the opportunity God has given us to do that through this film.

Social media is one of the most powerful ways we have to get the word out, and it’s also one of the most telling of how much we all need Jesus—His love, healing, peace and hope.

People express their sadness, grief and pain through social media every day. These posts show you a glimpse of that.

We all long for something more—something only Christ can give us. We pray that the next time you come across someone in need of what Christ can give, you would take the opportunity to share fearlessly, as is written in Ephesians 6:10.
